Did you know? In some states, it is mandatory for Health and Wellness teachers to include organ and
tissue donation awareness in their classroom curriculum, ensuring that every freshman in the state
learns what it means to register as a donor. But this is not the case in Oregon or Washington, where
it is an optional topic. That’s why Donate Life Northwest’s School Outreach programs strive to make it
easy for science, health, health careers and driver’s education teachers to choose and teach donation
awareness. If you are a teacher or school administrator – or know someone who is – encourage
them to check out our 100% free programs!
1. Request an educational presentation. We can even arrange to spend all day on campus!
2. Download tools from the Educators section of our website.
3. Contact Donate Life Northwest to arrange teacher trainings.
4. Encourage students to organize a campus donor drive or a Donate Life club!

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. once said, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: “What are you doing for oth-
ers?” January 20, the MLK Day of Service, is a great time to mobilize your friends and family to make a differ-
ence.
Donate Life Northwest is here to help you organize a donation awareness event, presentation, or a donor drive.

We’d like to salute the Art Institute of Portland, whose Advanced Graphic Design class “adopted” Donate Life Northwest
as one of a handful of non-prot organizations for which they created original artwork.
After meeting Donate Life staff to learn about the need for raising awareness of organ and tissue donation, students
developed posters, bookmarks, and social media graphics designed to inspire and educate. Let us know if you’d like
materials of your own to hang at your local health center, place of worship, school or workplace!
Welcome Alexis Anderson!
by SARAH SALTER, ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT
It is our pleasure to introduce our newest addition to the team at Donate Life Northwest, Development Director
Alexis Anderson! After working in public affairs and corporate philanthropy, Alexis made the transition to nonprot
fundraising when she joined the Red Cross seven years ago. Since then, she has managed complex contributor
databases and large gift processing teams; overseen direct mail and phone campaigns that raised millions of dol-
lars; and cultivated transformational leadership and estate gifts.
For more than a decade, Alexis has trained new volunteers and taught adaptive snowboarding to patients of Shri-
ners Hospital for Children. She always agrees when kids exclaim, “That was the most fun, ever!”
Through both her volunteer work and the Red Cross, Alexis has seen the tremendous value of organ, eye and
tissue donations that restore health and save lives. She is excited to help others see the urgent need to help the
thousands who wait, and the terric opportunities to invest in programs that will change the hearts and minds of
those resistant to donation. If you are doing your part and giving all that you can to support the work of Donate
Life Northwest, Alexis would love to hear your story. Email her at [email protected] or give her a call at
