IMMUNIZATION
REQUIREMENTS
New York State Public Health Law and
Buffalo State require that all college
students show proof of immunity to measles,
mumps, and rubella (if you were born
before January 1, 1957, you are exempt
from this requirement but must provide
proof of age). The law also requires that
all college students read the information
on meningitis and complete the response
form or show proof of immunization within
the last ve years. This documentation is
contained on the enclosed New Student
Health Form, which must be completed and
led with the Buffalo State Weigel Wellness
Center. Once the form is completed, it
can be mailed to the Weigel Wellness
Center. You may also e-mail the form
to weigel@buffalostate.edu or fax the
form to (716) 878-6727.
Don’t wait. We strongly recommend that
you complete this requirement now. You
will not be allowed to register without
proper proof of immunizations on le
with the wellness center. Refer to the
New Student Health Form for the exact
immunizations required by law.
Immunization records may be obtained
from a health-care provider, high school,
!
or previous college. Transfer students
should obtain their health records from
their previous school and arrange to have
them sent to the Weigel Wellness Center.
Forms to request immunization records are
available on the wellness center website.
If you attended Buffalo State within the
past seven years, it is your responsibility
to reactivate your health le by calling the
wellness center during business hours
(8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.).
Visit weigel.buffalostate.edu or call us at
(716) 878-6711 for more information.
FINAL HIGH SCHOOL
TRANSCRIPTS AND PROOF
OF GRADUATION
Federal law requires that colleges receive
verication of high school graduation from
all entering rst-year and transfer students.
Without the required verication of
graduation, Buffalo State will be legally
unable to grant you a degree or offer
you any federal or state nancial aid.
This includes all Pell and TAP grants, work
study, and loans. Once you have graduated,
please have your high school send a nal
ofcial transcript with the date of graduation
posted to our Admissions Ofce.

STUDENTS WITH TRANSFER OR
ADVANCED CREDITS
If you have taken courses at another
college or university, you must arrange
to have all nal, ofcial transcripts sent to
the Admissions Ofce as soon as possible.
Transfer students who have been admitted
must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or
higher after additional coursework has been
calculated. If you plan to take additional
courses before enrolling at Buffalo State,
you must notify the university in writing.
These policies also apply to students who
have been offered readmission to the
university. All students with advanced credit
(e.g., AP, IB) should have ofcial score reports
sent to the university. Questions about
transfer credits? E-mail our transfer team
FINANCIAL AID
A signicant percentage of Buffalo State
students are eligible for some kind of
nancial assistance. Students who have
applied for nancial aid and have been
accepted to the university will receive
an e-mail notifying them of their SUNY
Award Letter upon receipt of a valid
Free Application for Federal Student Aid
(FAFSA). If you need help, contact Buffalo
State’s Financial Aid Ofce. The ofce is
open Monday through Friday all year.
You may discuss nancial aid options,
including grants, loans, employment,
and scholarships, in person or by
telephone. Please call for an appointment.
Financial Aid can be reached by e-mail
at naid@buffalostate.edu or by phone

SCHOLARSHIPS
Buffalo State offers more than 100
scholarships for students demonstrating
outstanding leadership qualities, academic
abilities, and/or nancial need. First-year
and transfer students are reviewed for
academic merit scholarships. Many
other scholarships are available; visit
nancialaid.buffalostate.edu/scholarships.
ACCESSIBILITY SERVICES
If you are a student with a disability,
we encourage you to contact the Student
Accessibility Services Ofce to discuss
specic accommodations you may need.
The ofce coordinates classroom and testing
accommodations and makes referrals to
appropriate support resources. A meeting
to help plan the support services you may
need should be done before classes start
so that you will have access to the resources
to do your best work. Appointments can
be scheduled throughout the year as well.
The Student Accessibility Services Ofce’s
contact information can be found on the
last page of this brochure. Visit

ORIENTATION
First-year and transfer students interact
with faculty, conrm course schedules,
learn about student and academic
services, and engage in a variety of
social activities during Orientation.
All students are required to attend an
Orientation session in the summer prior
to the start of the fall semester. Orientation
allows students to meet faculty, staff,
upper-class students,and other incoming
peers inside and outside their academic
major. Attendance is mandatory and a
program fee will be placed on the student’s
bill. After submitting your deposit, you will
receive an e-mail invitation to register for
Orientation online (you must rst submit
your online Admissions Reply Form and
Tuition Deposit). An optional parent/family
member session is offered, at an additional
cost, and runs concurrently with new student
Orientations. For more information on

REGISTERING FOR CLASSES
Professional Academic Advisors work with
incoming rst-year and transfer students
to create your fall and spring schedules.
After signing up for new student Orientation,
you can expect to work with a Professional
Academic Advisor to discuss your class
schedule. Advisement and registration
are generally completed in the summer
(for fall semester) and winter (for spring
semester). You’ll be able to view your
schedule in Banner, using the Banner ID
included with your offer of admission.
Students will be billed for all courses for
which they are registered, so you must
notify the Admissions Ofce if your plans
change and you no longer wish to attend
the university. If you have questions about
getting registered for courses, email
(716) 878-5223.
TRANSFER STUDENTS: You can review
your transfer credit evaluation in Degree
Works so you can see how your classes
have transferred and what you have left
to take at Buffalo State. Banner is the
system you will use to register for your
courses. Banner tutorials (How to Search
for Classes, How to Register for Classes,
How to View/Print Class schedule, etc.)
are available to assist you with registration.
In addition, an online Transfer Tutorial will
explain policies, how to read DegreeWorks
(your degree audit), general education
requirements, and how to use Banner
in more detail. Information is available
on the Accepted Student website.
LIVING ON CAMPUS
Living on campus can enhance your total
college experience and be an important
component to your success. There are many
advantages to living on campus. National
studies show that resident students tend to
have higher grade point averages, persist
and graduate with higher frequency,
become more involved with campus clubs,
and express more satisfaction with their
undergraduate education. Many students
are required to live on campus for their rst
two years at Buffalo State. Please review
the Residence Requirement section on page 5.
You are able to submit your residence hall
and meal plan application through Banner.
Residence Life can be reached by e-mail
at [email protected] or by phone at
(716) 878-3000.

also located in the Campbell Student
Union, offers nine different concepts,

the topics of nutrition and health to create
an atmosphere of relaxation and education.
