In March 2021, The Sunday Times rated many of the areas in West Yorkshire as the
best places to live in the North. Top rated was Ilkley, a town located in the city of
Bradford. Also mentioned were the Leeds suburbs of Chapel Allerton, Farsley and
Horsforth.
Alongside Bradford, Leeds is the largest area of West Yorkshire and also made this
top list of places to live and work for its thriving university scene, booming retail and
leisure sector and being the “epicentre to some of the most breath-taking views of
Yorkshire countryside”.
West Yorkshire has excellent transport links. Its dissected by the M1, M62 and A1
meaning many places are within easy reach. Leeds and York are on the East Coast
Mainline rail network with London and Edinburgh only two hours away, the east
coast within two hours, and Manchester within an hour. Also, Leeds Bradford Airport
serves many UK and international destinations.

Soak up some culture
Home to the famous Bronte sisters, West Yorkshires is rich in culture,
spectacular buildings and breath-taking scenery.
Museums include the Royal Armouries Museum (below, right), Thackray
museum of Medicine, Bradford Industrial Museum, Yorkshire sculpture park,
National Science and Media Museum and Eureka! The National Children's
Museum.
There are also the stately homes which are open to visitors such as Harewood
House (below, left), Lotherton Hall, Kirkstall Abbey and Shibden Hall (Below,
Middle). Shibden Hall was the focus of the BBC drama series, Gentleman
Jack. There is always something to see and do.

Heritage, landscapes and wildlife
The Yorkshire Dales National Park (pictured) famous for its stone walls and
amazing scenery, is easily accessible by car, train or bus.
You're also within easy reach of other amazing places like The North York
Moors national park, Yorkshires stunning East Coast with places like Whitby,
Robin Hoods Bay, Scarborough and Filey, and the Peak District national park.

Leeds’ has been dubbed the Knightsbridge of the
North, and for good reason with its high street

From the plush new Victoria Gate complex (left)
and the unique Trinity Centre (below), there’s
everything you could want in one place.
For a more intimate experience, check out the
beautiful Victorian arcades or the famous
Kirkgate Market, birthplace of Marks and
Spencer.
Out of town you’ll find retail parks a plenty
including the White Rose Shopping Centre
towards Bradford, and the J32 outlet mall near
