Federal Direct PLUS Loan: The U.S.
Department of Education makes this Direct
Loan eligible to parents of dependent students
who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents
and to graduate students. The student must
have a valid FAFSA on file and can complete
the PLUS application online at studentaid.
gov. A borrower credit check is run during the
application process. More detailed information
can be found on the Financial Aid website,
listed below.
Alternative Loan Programs: These are
education loans, also referred to as private
loans, and are available through banks and
private lenders. Alternative loans are not
Federal student loans, but are credit-based
student loans that often require a creditworthy
U.S. co-signer. There are several alternative
loans listed on the West Liberty Financial Aid
website, but students can use any alternative
educational loan of their choice.

5-Month Payment Plan: WLU’s Business Office
offers families the convenience of a monthly
payment plan as an alternative to using loans.
Students must sign up each semester, as needed,
with the first Fall semester payment due in
August and the first Spring semester payment
due in January. There is a $30 enrollment fee.
Applications can be completed on the Business
Office website, listed below.
60/40 Payment Plan Option: This payment plan
allows the student to pay 60% of a semester bill by
the due date and the remaining 40% at a set mid-
semester date with a 2% interest fee. Applications
can be completed on the Business Office website.
Out of Pocket Payments: Students and families
also have the option to pay a balance directly out
of pocket. There are multiple ways to make these
types of payments.

Online Payment Options are also available
through the Business Office website and
the student’s WINS account.
A merchant fee is added to all debit / credit card
transactions, whether paying online, over the
phone, or in person. No fee is assessed when
paying by E-check.

PRO TIP: Bills are due 10 days before the start
of each semester. Billing statements are
only emailed, by the Business Office, to the
student’s WLU email account.
