Arizona In State University Competency Requirements: Core competency Requirements: Competency requirement of 4 years English, 4 years Math
(Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra II and one course requiring Algebra II as a prerequisite), Laboratory Science (3 years total), Social Science 2 years
including 1 year American History, 2 years Second Language (same language) and 1 year Fine Arts. Students must earn a minimum of a 2.0 un-weighted
GPA in each competency area.

Deadline: Rolling admissions; application will open on June 3, 2019, and we will accept applications until July 1, 2020. Recommendation is to
apply as early as possible for best scholarship, financial aid and housing options.
Admission
Requirement: Arizona residents will be offered admission with an un-weighted GPA of 3.0 or higher in core classes, and have no deficiencies in the
16 required core classes. Students will be considered for admission if they have a 2.5 un-weighted core GPA or higher, and have no
more than one deficiency in any two areas in the 16 college preparatory courses. If students have a combination of a math and lab
science deficiency, they are not admissible.
Honors
College: The prompts for Spring 2020 and Fall 2020 admission are now posted. The application is set to open September 1, 2019. See the

Admission to Honors is based on student evaluation from a multitude of perspectives. Test scores and unweighted core HS GPA are
considered for freshmen, but that criteria is not exclusive. Our current Honors student class averages 27 on the ACT, 1234 on the
Math and Reading portions of the SAT and a 3.76 un-weighted Core GPA. Honors College applications must have a 3.0 Core HS GPA.
In order to complete the on-line Honors application, you must first have been admitted to NAU and have your NAU ID and password.
Also, please have your essay and resume ready to submit BEFORE clicking Apply. There is no deadline to apply to Honors, but we
strongly encourage submitting application materials prior to February 1 if a student is interested in living in the Honors College
housing. April 1 is our priority date to ensure enrollment in a first year Honors seminar. Admission to Honors will continue through
the summer on a space available basis. Cost is $350 per semester for incoming freshman. More information can be found at

Housing: Freshman students are not required to live on campus, but it is highly recommended. Housing is guaranteed to incoming freshman
who complete the housing application by May 15

Scholarships: Incoming freshman are automatically considered for scholarships once accepted and SAT or ACT scores are received.
Dean’s Scholarship: $5,000 per year Criteria: 3.0-3.49 unweighted core GPA, and at least 19 ACT or 990 SAT
President’s Scholarship: $8,000 per year Criteria: 3.5+ unweighted core GPA, and at least 19 ACT or 990 SAT
Resident Lumberjack Scholarship: For Arizona Residents only. Based on the completion and/or in-progress work of the 16 college
preparatory (core) courses that are required for admission and a minimum 3.5 unweighted core high school GPA, with no letter
grade lower than “B” in any of the college preparatory courses. Covers tuition only; it does not cover fees or other expenses. Retake
Policy: Students are allowed up to one (1) course retake. Course retakes completed after the date of high school graduation will be
allowed so long as they are completed by the first day of NAU classes.
Renewal Criteria: All merit scholarships are renewable for up to 4 years if renewal criteria are met. If the renewal criteria are not
met, the amount and the award are subject to change.
Dean’s Scholarship: 2.75 GPA in university coursework and completion of 30 credit hours each academic year.
President’s & Lumberjack Scholarship: 3.0 GPA in university coursework and completion of 30 credit hours each academic year.
Testing: SAT and ACT tests can be completed after graduation so long as the scores are received by the first day of NAU classes.
