Fall 2023 Freshman Merit-Based Tuition Scholarship Criteria
The following scholarships are for Arizona residents only and can only be used at the Flagstaff Mountain Campus. Incoming
freshman are automatically considered for scholarships upon admission to NAU.
Students who qualify must accept their offer of admission at www.nau.edu/acceptmyoffer by May 1, 2023 in order to receive
any merit scholarships.
Core Competency Requirements: Competency requirement of 4 years English, 4 years Math (Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra
II and one additional math course), 3 years Laboratory Science, 2 years Social Science (1 year which must be US/American
History), and 1 year Fine Arts or CTE. Students must earn a minimum of a 2.0 unweighted GPA in each competency subject
area.
All merit-based scholarships are based off a students unweighted core high school GPA in the core 14 college preparatory
courses listed above. The unweighted core high school GPA a student is required to have in the core 14 college preparatory
courses are listed below for each respective scholarship.
Additional Renewal Criteria: All merit-based scholarships are renewable for up to eight semesters if renewal criteria are met.
Students must maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA and maintain full-time course enrollment. If the renewal criteria are not met, the

Lumberjack Scholars Award
Award Amount: Covers up to 100 percent of tuition (fall and spring); does not cover fees or other expenses
Award Criteria
3.75- 4.0 unweighted core high school GPA
Renewal Criteria - Maintain a 2.0 cumulative GPA in university course work
President’s Resident Tuition Scholarship
Award Amount: $9,000 per academic year (fall and spring)
Award Criteria
3.50-3.74 unweighted core high school GPA
Renewal Criteria - Maintain a 2.0 cumulative GPA in university course work
Dean’s with Distinction Scholarship
Award Amount: $6,500 per academic year (fall and spring)

3.4-3.49 unweighted core high school GPA
Renewal Criteria - Maintain a 2.0 cumulative GPA in university course work
Dean’s Tuition Scholarship
Award Amount: $5,000 per academic year (fall and spring)

3.0-3.39 unweighted core high school GPA
Renewal Criteria - Maintain a 2.0 cumulative GPA in university course work
Opportunity Scholarship
Award Amount: $2,500 per academic year (fall and spring)

Admitted-2.99 unweighted core high school GPA)
