Campbell County School District #1
Graduation Requirements
Students graduating from Campbell County School District must meet two sets of requirements: earn a
specific number of credit hours and demonstrate proficiency on Wyoming Content and Performance
Standards.
Credit Hours
Students earn a credit hour by receiving a passing grade in a course that lasts a full school year or its
equivalent. The State of Wyoming requires high school graduates to earn the following credits in grades
9-12:
English - 4, Mathematics - 3, Science - 3, and Social Studies - 3.
Each of the high schools in Campbell County School District has established additional requirements in
specific content areas and as general electives. Information on these requirements can be obtained from
the guidance departments at the high schools.
Wyoming Content and Performance Standards
Students demonstrate proficiency by successful performances on District Student Performance
Assessments (DSPA=s). These tests are given throughout numerous courses in all subject areas. The
summation of all the test results is used to develop a Body of Evidence to document proficiency on the
State Standards.
Content Areas
Wyoming State Standards have been established in nine Content Areas.
Language Arts Mathematics Science
Social Studies Fine and Performing Arts Foreign Language
Health Physical Education Career/Vocational Education
At a minimum, students must demonstrate proficiency in at least five of these areas in order to graduate.
To be proficient in a Content Area, students must demonstrate proficiency in all the Standards of that
Content Area except Career / Vocational Education where four of the six Standards are required and
Health which requires five of the seven. See table for a list of the Standards in each Content area.
Standards
Each Standard within a Content Area is further defined by Benchmarks. The Benchmarks provide specific
learning expectations for the Standards. The number of Benchmarks varies among the Standards. Please
see the table for the number of Benchmarks associated with each Standard.
To demonstrate proficiency on an individual Standard, students will need to show proficiency on an
established number of Benchmarks for that Standard. This number was set by a group of parents,
community members, teachers, and school administrators at a community forum. The number of required
Benchmarks is indicted on the table.
Benchmarks
It is the Benchmarks that are assessed on the District Student Performance Assessments. To show
proficiency on these assessments, students must score at least 80% or level 3 on a 4-level rubric. The
Benchmarks are usually assessed numerous times in various courses. Students must be successful on at
least half of the assessments that are correlated to a particular Benchmark to be considered proficient on
the Benchmark. Groups of teachers periodically review each student=s test results and determine if the
